Best Organizing Tips for Junk Drawers

Hello! Welcome to my blog where I will let you in on all of the best organizing tips for every area of your home! Organizing doesn't have to be hard. Attacking it just a little bit at a time is the best way to approach it. And, the dividends you will receive by having a neat and organized home (and life) will far outweigh the time you spent on these organizing tips. Ready - lets get started!

Todays topic: Junk drawers. Everyone has them, no one can find anything in them. Time to do something about that. Grab a cup of coffee or tea, this won't take long. Also grab some cardboard, scissors and packing tape. You're gonna need them. Let's organize!

  1. take the drawer out of the cabinet. How? Pull it all the way out, then reach around the back corners, there is usually a clip you press to disengage the drawer from the sliders. Do it.
  2. put the drawer on a table, remove everything from the drawer.
  3. If you are feeling extra ambitious, line the drawer with some shelf paper or whatever you have on hand. Gift wrap works fine.
  4. drink your coffee or tea.
  5. toss the obvious trash.
  6. put away things that don't belong in there - money, hair bows, menus, pencils, etc. (money goes in your pocket, hair bows in your daughters room, menus in a menu binder or drawer, pencils in a pencil cup mounted on the wall next to your phone).
  7. organize what's left - scissors, screwdrivers, chapstick, rubberbands, tape measure, etc. Put like with like.
  8. drink your coffe or tea.
  9. cut the cardboard into strips the height of the drawer.
  10. use your spacial skills to figure out what size sections you will need in the drawer.
  11. make the sections using the cardboard and tape. Cut and arrange the strips into sections approx. the size of the scissors, rubberbands, etc.
  12. use the tape to attach the cardboard sections to the drawer sides and bottom and to each other
  13. put the items in the correct sized sections.
  14. finish your coffee or tea.
  15. done!
Take a step back and absorb the neatness. Doesn't it make you feel more in control? Great job!
